WHO WE ARE

History

The history of the PGQu is closely connected to that of the Chemistry Institute of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. The PGQu was the first Graduate Program in Chemistry to be approved by the Brazilian Federal Council of Education and the first in the country allowed to confer the Master and Ph.D. degrees in Chemistry. It began its activities in 1963 and is, nowadays, recognized nationally and internationally as a Center of Excellence in Chemistry.

The PGQu resources include free access to practically all scientific journals of chemistry and related areas, books from all the libraries in the University campus, a machine-shop, a glass- workshop, many research laboratories and a great variety of equipments.

The Board of the Graduate Program consist of the Dean and the Vice-Dean of Graduate Studies, twelve faculty members accredited in the Program and a representative of the graduate students.
